A whole lot of mixtapes last week but other that A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz everything else was kind of *Kanye Shrug*. Instead here’s a couple songs/videos that got my attention…
Sheefy McFly- “Eating Sushi Slapping Hoes” [view here]
It’s been about 5-6 years since I’ve been to the ‘D’ and when I was last there the city got it’s first sushi spot downtown and I had a great meal courtesy of Spier 1200. Now usually a sushi restaurant means one thing: gentrification, but after watching this video it’s nice to see OSLO having a different effect on Detroit.
SONG OF THE YEAR. This record must put the Drake haters in a strange juxtaposition when this one song goes harder than most artists’ catalog. Yeah he likes to sing about emotions and sweaters but give credit where credit is due folks.
Roc Marciano make records that make me want to stab someone and at the same time go get something to eat. “I get nectarine in the beam”…”chump cheddar cheese”…”hoes lay bread on me like deli meat”, only need a juice box and you got a brown bag lunch. Reloaded can’t drop soon enough.
Juicy J feat. 2 Chainz & Tha Joker – “Zip & A Double Cup” (Remix) [view here]
My favorite song of the summer got a remix and a video. I wonder if 2 Chainz enjoyed the complimentary fresh baked cookies at the Double Tree? Cookies & lean, gangsta.
2-2 last week. 6-5-1 for this column
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (-3)
Kansas City is a strange team to figure out. They looked awful in their first 3 games then they looked pretty good in 4 straight wins then looked horrible again last week against Miami. What isn’t difficult to figure out is Denver. Option football will not get it done in the NFL. Pick: Chiefs
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals (+3)
This is a weird thing to write but the Bengals have a promising future but for right now they just don’t have enough weapons on offense to match the Steelers. Pick: Steelers
Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (-3)
What a difference a month makes. When these teams met in Week 5, Detroit was the talk of the NFL with it’s 4-0 start and it’s first Monday night game in a decade while the Bears were still struggling to figure out what of offense works with their personal. But since that emotional game the Lions are 1-2 with both loses coming at home and the Bears have won four in a row. Pick: Bears
