If you were one of the lucky ones to get a ticket for Jay Z’s sold-out concerts, you are in for a bonus 16-bar treat this fall. The co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets and the Barclays Center wants to perform and rock the mic on the stage he paid for. Mikhail Prokhorov, the Russian politician and the first non-North American NBA owner wants to add rapper to his resume and take the stage with Jay Z and spit some rhymes.
Is Jigga going to let Mik Pro (the rapper name I gave him) get some shine time? I think he will, for one show. Performing at all eight shows would be overkill and take away the surprise and eventful element of this spectacle. It is a rather good publicity for everyone to meet the man responsible for giving 2,000 jobs to Brooklyn and giving the borough their own team and the rapping stunt gives him a comical charm. Can’t go wrong with getting the crowd to crack a smile and give them something to tweet about.
For those of you who won’t be inside the Barclays Center this September to witness history (like myself) we have a sample of what to expect from Mik Pro on the mic. On a Russian TV comedy show, the billionaire gave the audience a quick verse.
‘Mr. Jay-Z, this rap is for you,’ went the English portion of the lyrics. ‘Mr. Jay-Z, this is the first presentation/of real rap music from Russian Federation. Mr. Jay-Z, you are not alone/Mikhail Prokhorov on the microphone.’
He told Crain’s New York he was serious about his rapping debut. I guess he’s going to keep us in suspense. I’ll keep my Twitter feed on the lookout for #WTTGoneRussian. Can you think of any other hashtags that would be used for this epic moment?
